Description: Ultramarine Violets are mostly used in Plastics to reduce the yellowish tendency of some resins and to provide brightness to white-coloured Plastics. They can also be used to provide a violet shade to all sort of Plastic parts. As Ultramarine Blues, they lack metamerism; therefore, they do not change color in function of the illuminate.
Ultramarine Violets’ properties are very similar to Ultramarine Blues’ in terms of:

Description: Ultramarine Blue is an inorganic pigment whose colour has been classified as Pigment Blue 29/C.I. 77007 by the Colour Index System. Chemically it is a sodium aluminum sulphosilicate.
Ultramarine Blues are the most widely used blue pigments because of their unique colouristic and performance attributes. Ultramarine Blues provide a unique reddish undertone blue colour and are able to easily tint whites, greys and blacks with a bluish undertone, to enhance the best of such colours. Moreover, Ultramarine Blues lack metamerism; therefore, they do not change colour in function of the illuminate.

Nubiperf AR

Product Name: Nubiperf AR

Description: The Nubiperf range is the highest quality and best performaning Ultramarine Blue on the market. The main characteristic is the excellent dispersibility due to the absence of oversized particles as well as its low moisture and sulphur content. Customers using this range benefit to achieve a competitive advantage with regards to process ability and productivity of extrusion machines, quality of Masterbatch and performance in end use.
Ultramarine Blues, due to their poly-sulphured chemical nature, are very sensitive to the attack of acids. When this happens, the colour fades away. The way to prevent from acids attacking the Ultramarine Blue structure is to protect it with a “silica shield”.
Nubiperf AR is a new generation Acid-Resistant Ultramarine Blue developed through a novel silica encapsulation technology that is much more efficient than the conventional one. Because of this Nubiperf AR provides 40% higher tinting strength than conventional Acid-Resistant Ultramarine Blues. Moreover, Nubiperf AR has got a higher acid resistance and a higher weather resistance in use, is easier to disperse and has increased abrasion resistance, keeping all characteristics and performance during and after processing in an extruder, injection moulding machine, etc.
Applications: Most relevant Nubiperf AR applications are the colouration of:
  • Acid polymers or potentially acid-releasing polymers e.g. PVC
  • Plastics in contact with acids
  • Plastics in outdoor applications in which the continuous exposure to UV light, acid rain, oxygen,
etc can accelerate the polymer degradation and release acid traces.

Nubiperf FCP

Description: Standard Ultramarine Blues have been used for years in the Plastics industry to make colour concentrates and compounds for food and cosmetics packaging, because of its unique colour and performance. Being a poly-sulphured derivative, however, the potential issue of sulphurous odour and/or taste due to the chemical nature of the product has been always a critical factor in this type of very sensitive applications.
The Nubiperf FCP series has been developed to meet the highest organoleptic requirements for those customers that want a plus of safety when dealing with Ultramarine Blues in very sensitive odour and taste plastics applications, and that do not want to sacrifice the high performance and unique colour of this inorganic pigment vs Phthalocyanine Blues and/or Cobalt Blues. Nubiperf FCP series is the only Ultramarine Blue series in the world in which Free Sulphur content is guaranteed to be lower than 1 ppm i.e. 100 times lower than the following best Ultramarine Blues as such regards.
Applications: The most relevant applications are Packaging for Food, Beverages, Cosmetics, Pharmaceutical and Medical (including devices) as well as injection molded parts for Automotive interiors in which organoleptic control regulations have been vastly growing in the last years.

Nubicoat HWR

Description: Ultramarine Blues, due to their poly-sulphured chemical nature, are very sensitive to the attack of acids. When this happens, the colour fades away. The way to prevent from acids attacking the Ultramarine Blue structure is to protect it with a “silica shield”.
Nubicoat HWR (High Weather Resistant) is an ultramarine blue pigment, developed with silica encapsulation technology, to prevent acids attacking the poly-sulphured chromophores of the structure, which causes severe fading.
This technology is based on the encapsulation of elemental particles rather than the encapsulation of agglomerates. A thinner silica layer is deposited on each Ultramarine Blue particle, resulting in the encapsulated pigment having smaller average and narrower particle size distribution. In addition, it provides higher abrasion resistance due to the protective silica coating.
In addition, Nubicoat HWR adds acid resistance and hence weather resistance -in a wide variety of atmospheric conditions- to the already excellent performance of Ultramarine Blues in terms of:
  • Ease of dispersion and wetting
  • Excellent solvent fastness
  • Good alkali fastness (without the presence of high % of Calcium ions)
  • Heat fastness (350ºC)
  • Excellent light fastness

Nubicoat HTS

Product Name: Nubicoat HTS

Description: Nubicoat HTS (High Tinting Strength) is produced with a new manufacturing technology that provides 40% more colour strength (on average) and enhanced dispersibility/gloss/transparency compared to conventional Ultramarine Blues used in Paints & Coatings. In addition, this allow customers either to make paints with higher hiding power at same colour luminosity than in the past, or to make paints with the same hiding power as in the past with a stronger blue colour.
Nubicoat HTS is not an encapsulated with silica Ultramarine Blue; therefore, it is not acid resistant. It is highly indicated for indoor applications and for outdoor applications that work with highly cross-linked and light resistant binder-systems where there is no acid additive and there is no risk of any potential acid component release when ageing.
In summary, Nubicoat HTS adds a higher tinting strength to the excellent performance of Ultramarine Blues in terms of:
  • Ease to disperse and to wet
  • Excellent solvent fastness

Nubicem Series

Product Name: Nubicem B-101, Nubicem B-201

Description: Ultramarine Blue historically was never used for cement colouration, because Ultramarine Blue is not chemically stable when in contact with the cement paste. During the setting of mortar, various chemical interactions take place, causing the Ultramarine Blue’s chromophore to degrade. During these chemical interactions there are two main reactions that occur simultaneously; First Calcium ions from cement are exchanged with sodium ions from the Ultramarine Blue structure, producing some distortion in the crystalline structure of Ultramarine Blue, and secondly, because of the similarity of both structures, there is an overlap between the calcium hydroxide + calcium/aluminium silicate from cement paste with the ultramarine blue structure that favours the oxidation of the chromophore. This combined chemical interaction leads to the complete fading of the blue colour.
Nubicem B series is a range of Ultramarine Blues specifically designed to be compatible in cementitious formulations, due to a special encapsulation technology.
The Range: Nubicem B-101
Ultramarine Blue protected against possible interactions with cement. It is recommended for outdoor and indoor applications, when the contact with water (or high humidity) is not severe; i.e. in dry areas or when the formulation is highly hydrophobic.
Nubicem B-201
Ultramarine Blue protected against possible interactions with cement, modified with Cobalt Blue. It is recommended for all kinds of indoor and outdoor applications, it provides additional protection for the most demanding applications.

Applications: Plastics.
Description: Ultramarine Pinks provide very similar performance to Ultramarine Violets, with even more reddish shade.
90C Ultramarine Pink is mostly used to reach pinky shades in Plastics. Its low tinting strength can become advantageous vs organic pigments because it provides a very transparent pink shade with little colour saturation. It is also very suitable to combine with “Effect pigments” to reach unique colour effects too.
